I made the switch from Vonage to Ooma and have been pretty happy, but there are a couple of technical differences to consider:

Telephone line hook up - With Vonage, I just took the adaptor and plugged it into a wall outlet, then all my phone jacks in my house worked. With Ooma, you need to have each phone plugged into either a base or a scout. This was fine for me because I have two wireless phone based and plugged one into the Ooma base and the other into the Ooma scout. I am not sure how we would have done it if we had a wall mounted phone.

Features - There are a couple of subtle features missing, and a couple of extra things that Vonage did not have. One thing I miss is the network availability feature on Vonage. This was the feature that would automatically forward your calls to another number when then network was down. Since my DSL goes out from time to time, this was a nice feature to have. On the plus side, if you use the premier service, the instant second line is great. If you get a call waiting beep, someone else can answer the call while you continue with your first call.

Most everything else is pretty comparable. I find the voice quality to be similar, and all the other basic features work the same as any other phone company.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.
