ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills Review

I have run the gamut of VoIP companies, and finally found one that has its act together. My setup is quite different from the typical VoIP setup in that I have two line phones in the house, with line 2 running from an old POTS line. I have also rewired my house so all wiring comes to a central distribution point, something that has been a sticking point with some other VoIP providers. So setup of a new VoIP provider tends to be somewhat problematic. Not the case with Ooma. I started by hooking up the scout inside my D-Link DIR-655 router. To my surprise, it worked without a problem. Then I put the device in the router DMZ, still worked. So I decided to take the next step and hook it up to my distribution panel. This is where I have run in to problems in the past.

But to my surprise and happiness, the Ooma hub just WORKED! Then on to the Scout. To get this working with my funky setup, I had to call Ooma twice during the day. My phone calls were answered very quickly, and the person on the other end of the phone spoke perfect English and was extremely knowledgeable about how the device and scout work. Since my wiring is a little different, he gave me a few things to try. I called back a little later, got the same person, and he had done some checking. He gave me something else to try, and now I have the Hub and the Scout, and my phones with two lines give me my VoIP on line one, and my POTS on line two. And one touch voicemail, what a revelation for a VoIP company. Another amazing feature, I was talking on the phone in the home office, and the call waiting made the noise on my phone. All the other phones in the house were ringing for the new phone call coming in, even though I was speaking on that line on a different phone. VERY COOL! I love the idea of getting scouts to place around the house so I can easily check voicemails.

Having been through the mill with lots of VoIP companies, I will look no more. This service is great. And I haven't even touched on the price for the Premier service, $99/year. Very inexpensive compared to Vonage and many others. And the calls connect quickly, very little delay. The special tone the box plays when you connect or someone connects to you is a cool added feature. Bottom line: this is a great price for a great VoIP service!
