I purchased the ooma system about 3 weeks ago. I hoped to replace my land line, which includes a primary number with an additional ringmaster number. I spent a great deal of time on the phone with ooma support trying to get the scout to work. They advised me to remove the filter that is required for my DSL internet connection. I ignored this advice initially and this prevented the scout from working properly. When I tried going without the filter, the scout worked, but the speed of my internet connection dropped drastically. I got around the scout problem by using a "wall to wall" arrangement. This means I positioned the scout right next to the hub, not in another room as intended.

After solving this issue, I still had problems with voice quality. The technicians wanted me to place the ooma hub connection between the DSL modem and my router. This was impossible since I have a single unit (the brand name is 2wire) that serves both functions. Technical support advised me to disable the firewall for the ooma device. For the most part, this corrected the voice quality problems.

The deal breaker for me was the very spotty performance of my fax machine. They only claim to support faxes on a "best efforts" basis. I was not aware of this disclaimer when I purchase the product. I have successfully sent a couple of faxes, but more times than not the fax fails.

I plan to transfer my ring master number to ooma. This gives me 2 separate lines, but I would not have gone to this much trouble and expense if I had known I would still be stuck with my land line.
