ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills Right now

I got ooma last week. Unfortunately, they could not give me a phone number of my area code (319). Instead, I got a number starting with (712), which is for Souix City, several hundred miles from here. This means my next door neighbor has to call long distance to talk to us. When I talked with a support person on the phone, (By the way, I'm impressed that I was able to reach one within a couple of touch tone key stroks.)Jose said I only need to use the 712 number for a week before they get me a 319 number. When I tried to follow up with an email to the ooma.com, the service guy Norman told me their carrier does not serve my area, therefore I may not be getting a new number any time soon but I'm welcome to check back with their website from time to time.

For all the benefits I'm getting, which is too early to tell from the few calls I've made, this might be a shortcoming I can live with. However, I question their claim of "choosing your phone number anywhere in the US". At least in my case, it is not true. I certainly wish they had made me aware of the issue before I bought the product.
