ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills Review

Since I will be going to study abroad for a while, I decided to get Ooma.

I only used it for 10 minutes and so far, sound quality is very nice and clear.

Moreover, there is no lag between conversations. I tried other VOIP before and there were lags between conversations.(even if you make a call in the same house, you still get 1-2 second lag.) I hated that so I didn't like VoIP. I did not expect to see Ooma works well, but I am really surprised by Ooma. Customer Service is nice and fast. (Didn't have to wait long.)

Anyway Ooma is a very nice device and hopefully they will port my cellphone number (if not oh well..), so that I could use it in out-side of US.

However, I'm also planning to buy Samsung's 30 mile range cordless phone. So that I could use Ooma like a cellphone. It does not seem so bad because it's only [...].

[...]

Also, Ooma seems to slow down my internet connection. Response of the webpages been slower than before. Just let you know...I believe many VoIP slows down your internet speed. They use about 200-300kbps up&downstream bandwidth..

Overall, I give 4.5 star out of 5. For the life time, you won't have to pay for the telephone fee and it works virtually anywhere in the world.

My only concern is if this company will survive. It seems like there are many people use Ooma, so we'll see.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

Easy set up, easy ordering, great customer service. A no brainer. My wife and I go out to dinner every month with the money we saved by switching to ooma. We had VOIP before from Packet 8, which only cost us $25 a month origionally which was $50 less than a land line. The service was inconsistant at best and the price crept up to $35 a month and then we heard about Ooma. Wow, great quality and we are able to spend $35 a month on something else. Well, had read tons of ooma reviews and finally switched over from Packet8 VoIP to ooma. Sound quality is MUCH improved over previous VoIP behind Linksys WRT54G firewall (with Tomato / QoS enabled as before). Interface and setup works great! International calls have been very good and cost on par or less than before VoIP. BTW, read some of the negative threads about privacy (think that is void given that they are no longer using peer-to-peer technology as they had originally planned) and 'conspiracy' threads about 'how can ooma deliver this service and remain economically viable due to their business model' ... well, I finally figured that since they are using Linux + Asterisk open source as their platform then that should help their costs down. And if Skype can offer $2.95 per month 'all you can talk in USA and Canada' and make a profit ... then IMHO ooma has a reasonable chance of making a profit by offering free USA and charging $0.019 / minute to Canada, as well as their Premiere package (and subsequent follow on products). So do you own research, but for me ... definitely a winner so far and would recommend to my family and friends. As a matter of fact, now in the process of porting my phone number over to ooma as we speak!Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

I have waited a two month to really test the Ooma service before writing a review.

Like many, I was a former Vonage user and my interest was piqued by "FREE" telephone service. I began reading reviews and noted that many of the negative reviews seemed be attributed to the fact that many did not read the terms of service or failed to understand the installation procedure for the device, and I can understand why. I am a techy, and thoroughly understand data and telephone networks, both via the communication standards and the physical wiring aspects.

Overall, Ooma does a really nice job of creating documentation to aid in the installation process. One of the real confusing issue is that, they really cannot document each unique issue that a user may face with their home wiring. This isn't the fault of Ooma, I as stated, they do a really great job of trying to document wiring issue and installation designs. They do it in a very articulate manner that is easy to understand (IMO) however, it can still be confusing.

I am not a person who is excited about packaging; however, if you are the packaging is of high quality and leads you to believe you are getting a very high quality product. The manuals are well written. I purchased the Ooma device plus the Scout; however, I have no real use of the Scout, I was not interested in using it and plan to sell the Scout on eBay, they seem to go for about $30.00.

On to the installation. The device itself appears to be built well, sturdy, and a bit heavy than what I anticipated. I decided to install the Ooma device behind my Internet facing router. This is NOT the recommended installation technique per the Ooma instruction. I initially had an issue getting the Ooma device to connect to the Ooma network. The lights on the Ooma device work in a diagnostic manner by lighting certain lights depending on the problem. After some time and rebooting the device (removing the power cord and plugging it back in) I got the device to sync with Ooma.

Over the next few weeks I paid close attention to the call quality and we did have time where calls would drop out. We could here the other party, but they could not hear us or vice versa.

I decided to move the Ooma device outside of my Internet facing router. Hence, the connection referenced the following: Cable Modem > Ooma > Router. These alleviate the need for that data (voice calls) to be processed via my Internet router. Overall call quality may have improved a little bit, but we still run into issues now and then. Overall, it had been acceptable IMO.

One of the issue I noted during installation was the white / flat network cable that was included with the Ooma device did not provide a very steady and high quality network connection. I believe this was one of the core reason I had issues connecting to the Ooma service initially and why it would lose connectivity sporadically. I did write Ooma about the problem but did not receive a response. I swapped out the cable with one of my own and the connection has been perfect since.

Speaking of, I should note that I ported my number from Vonage. During the port process, Ooma noted that it should take approximately 3-4 weeks and we would receive update via email.

Our porting process took about four weeks, during that time I did not receive any email update. I emailed Ooma for an update (at the same time I emailed their support folks about the network cable) and did not receive any update.

Overall, I have to make the assumption that if you need to contact support, you should set your expectations very low. Note that I did not try to call them, only attempted to email them, so take my comments with a grain of salt. Based on my experience, I would expect issues if I REALLY needed their help.

Oh, I almost forget, with the initial service, you also get to enjoy the Ooma premier service for the first month. I requested via email that our trial be extended since we really did not begin to use the service until our number was ported. I never received a response to my request. In all, we have not subscribed to the Ooma premier service, the only thing I liked about the enhanced service was when a voicemail was received, they would email you transcription of the voicemail (not always accurate) and also include an MP3 of the recording.

With the base service, they still email you; however, only include the number of the caller and notification that you have a voicemail and the length. You need to login to the Ooma website to listen to the voicemail. Overall, I am ok with this.

In closing, I have had a positive experience with Ooma; however, if I place myself in the shoes of a novice user, my experience may not have been so positive. In the same sense, many of the issues users may run into may not be Ooma's fault; however, since he average person just spent a considerable amount of $$, they will likely be very unhappy with Ooma.

Overall call quality has been acceptable to me. We don't use the home line heavily so when we do, it is reliable.

For the price, I am happy with the service and hope it will be around for a considerable amount of time!

This is a great device for those who want to permanently get rid of their landline phone charges and hidden fees.

Others have already given detailed descriptions about the device, I'll just give you my personal opinion:

Pros -
1) Easy installation
2) Excellent design
3) Reasonable customer service
4) Free landline VoIP technology services

Cons -
1) Need an Internet Connection
2) The Ooma hub requires a wall jack connection in order for the Ooma Scout to work

Bottom line:

Its a great investment for those who really don't want the hassle of dealing with the phone companies again. Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

Just a quick note about ooma. Super easy to set up and it worked perfect right out of the box. Tested for a week to be sure the quality was good (it is) then began the process to port my current number over to ooma. This took about 2 weeks and went off without a hitch. I have been using the Ooma system for two months now, this means 80.00 dollars of savings and counting. The setup and installation instructions are outstanding, easy to follow and designed for any setup you have in your home. the community block and the ability to screen calls to your voice mail is wounderful, no more telemarketers...sorry guys I get to enjoy dinner with the family in peace...YES. I would recommend this system to anyone and I have, the call quality is great and the plus service, free for 60 days provides benifits that no other provider can match and at $99 a year is still the best buy giong. If you are thinking about it...just do it the system pays for itself before you know it and the quality of service fellow Oooma owner blogs and advice will make this a system that you will very quickly not be adle to live without.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

I am very impressed with Ooma. I was a little skeptical, but after I installed and started using I was very happy. It works well. I did not sign up for the Ooma Premier, but I did port my AT&T number and the porting was very easy. It was ported the date Ooma's technical folks said it would be. I have a good bandwith so I haven't had any problems. From time to time, the connection does not go through, but when you try it again it works fine.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

When I got the ooma from Amazon I plugged the Hub in behind my Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato and after doing the online registration I was off and running (or making calls). I did install the Hub's Phone Port to my Line 1 house wiring (which powers most of my phones), and installed the Hub's Wall Port to my Line 2 house wiring (which powers the scout in the kitchen).

Just signed up for the Premier Service to keep the 2nd line (plus many other features; free service gives you a dial tone, free calls to anywhere in the US, call waiting, and caller ID so you need the premier service to get all the other features) and began the porting process. Had to talk to customer service once due to a billing issue and they said they would take care of it. The next day I got a call back from ooma support saying all was taken care of. All I can say is excellent customer service!

Now I've seen people compare this to MagicJack and I can say MagicJack is probably good for callers on the go or a cheap way to make calls on a low budget but it is not a phone replacement service (need a computer on to make it work, can't port numbers, and reportedly customer service is terrible). Ooma on the other hand IS A PHONE SERVICE REPLACEMENT! You can port your number, integrate the system into existing home phone wiring, and the customer service is great! So each service has its purpose and caters to two entirely different consumer groups, but if you're looking for a home phone service replacement you can't go wrong with the ooma.

Bottom Line is I'm very impressed so far!!

I've had the ooma system for 6 weeks now, and love it. However I still have not had my number ported over yet, and it has been over 5 weeks now. AT&T won't let go of my number and won't give ooma a date that it will be transported. Also when I went to get a dry loop DSL for the number to be ported, AT&T just would not make it easy on me - all kinds of jumping through hoops. I will update once number is ported.

This does NOT, I said NOT, replace your actual phone service. You MUST, have a phone service in your house from a phone company. This will NOT, operate on it's own. It is no different than having instant messenger that several sites like Yahoo and Hotmail offer for free and you don't need another phone in the house. This would be a great idea if you could get rid of your basic phone package to use it but you can't and you must have internet also, high speed. ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills Best Quality

So far we have had a positive experience with ooma, but here are a few things they do not tell you:

1) HEAT: Those cool-looking ooma hubs run warm on top, and downright hot underneath. Kinda strange because the power supply is outside. How much current are chips in this thing using, and why? When it burns out, I will have to plunk down another $200. I'm thinking, maybe that is how they plan to make their money.

2) INTERNATIONAL: The "famous" prefix number, 1019898, routes calls to a toll service whose domestic fee is 10 cents to connect plus 2 cent per minute in 6 minute increments. Ooma being free is cheaper -- but wait, not for international calls. To the United Kingdom, 1019898 charges 1 cent per minute to reach a land line and 15 cents for a mobile, while ooma charges about double (1.9 cents and 33 cents, respectively).

That's it so far.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

First thanks to Amazon for finding this product for me. I was looking for a magicjack and amazon showed me this device in search result. I read about this product and its reviews. Then I visited local Best Buy and Fry's store. I liked the product and promising features. So, finally I made up my mind to give it a try. Well! since then I'm a very happy user. It is full of many features. I subscribed to its premier service and it is worth paying $99.99 for that. I don't want to give any technical details as most of the people have already covered in their reviews. It is simply a great innovation and a revolution in Telephony industry.. and YES! it works like a charm and as promised. No false statements or hidden charges/drawbacks.

Kudos to ooma innovators. Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

We had already taken the voice-over-IP plunge for a year or so with Vonage, and were reasonably happy with the service, but it was getting expensive each month, without that much use. Switching to Ooma was easy - setup took 15 minutes at the outside. I really like that you can listen to messages while they're being left (like an answering machine). International rates to where we are calling are very low, and the sound quality is excellent. Also a key feature is to get voice mail messages sent to you by e-mail as a sound file - that is very handy.

The only drawback for us (and the reason it doesn't get five stars) is that 3-way call conferencing is a "premier" feature that you have pay for extra each month. It would be nice if Ooma bumped that feature to the "regular" service!

I have just ordered another Ooma for my in-laws - it's a terrific gadget that lives up to its promise. If you have high-speed Internet, this gadget will most likely save you a lot of money, and is very easy to install.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

I purchased Ooma earlier this month. I decided to port my number which took about 11 days. I didn't have any problems doing this at all. I emailed them the LOA form and within 11 days I recieved an email saying the porting process was complete. I was able to hook up the system without too much difficulty. The instructions were pretty easy to follow. I didn't have to call Ooma for assistance or anything. If you can read, then you should be able to hook it up fairly easily. I've been very happy with this product. My phone bill before Ooma was $30-$35 per month (no long distance). We used our cell phones to make long distance calls or we used Magic Jack (no more). I love Ooma and I wish I had made the switch earlier. We have a free trial of the Premier service but I don't intend to purchase it. We don't really need the extra line, etc. If you have high speed internet then you should take advantage of this service. Why pay for Ma Bell phone service when you can have Ooma for free...Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

I purchased this through Amazon about a month ago and have loved the features that this provides. You have a choice to keep your landline and add an ooma number as a second line or you can switch your landline over to ooma. This takes about three weeks and I just signed up for that so we'll see how that goes.

My favorite feature: the do not disturb- I simply hit a button and the calls automatically route into vm, if someone calls and left a vm- I see a blinking light and can then decide if I want to check my messages or now.
To turn it off, I press the same button and calls ring through.

I also love the fact that I can check my message while working on the computer - at home or at work.
It shows who calls and plays the message through the computer. The do not disturb and email capability works with both ooma and the ooma landline combination.

The main reason I got this is because I wanted to use the black list function- where I can designate who calls and who doesn't. I also have the option to use the community black list- a very handy feature that is not available on any service I know of and what pushed me to get this is I used to pay Verizon for the anonymous call block etc- and it never applied to 800 numbers, etc.

However the one thing to note is that ooma currently offers these features on the ooma line only and not if you decided to keep your landline in addition to ooma, they state this will be available in the future but currently only works with the ooma line.

It is very easy to set up- but one thing to keep in mind- is that you have to have the phone line and the router near each other to set it up. I haven't figured out a different way to do that- I suppose I can purchase a an adapter that turns my electrical socket into a phone line and locate that near my router as my phone line and router are far apart and I had to run a long cable to connect.

Other than that- i love it. Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

This product seems to refute the old adage "If it seems to good to be true, it probably is." I have had it installed for about three weeks, and it has worked great! I probably will get their premier service for $99 a year, but you are not obligated to do so. The Premier service gives you a second line, conference ability, and some other features. If all you need is one line, and unlimited long distance domestically, then it really is free after you buy the box. Of course you need to have High Speed internet.

My only criticism is that so far they haven't been able to get my outbound caller info to have my name on it. Other than that, it works extremely well. I am using it on DSL service.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

Where To Buy ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills

I have been using Ooma for 3 months now. I decided to cancel my landline and port my number to Ooma. I had a great experience porting the number. I believe Ooma has made the process simple and efficient. It took about 2 weeks from the moment I requested porting the number until it was ported. After that, I disconnected my landline.
As far as quality goes, I cannot tell the difference between a landline and Ooma. The voice quality is excellent! My router/switch at home does not support QoS so I've connected Ooma directly to my cable modem so it takes care of prioritizing the traffic. To be fair about the voice quality, I have to let you know that my service includes about 16Mbps down and about 1Mbps up.
Ooma provides a feature where you connect the Ooma hub into a phone outlet in your house and you can then plug in the Ooma scout into a different outlet, allowing you to have another phone which you could use for the same line or, if you get the premium membership, for a second line. This is a great feature!
The features of the basic plan (free plan), are pretty good but I still signed up for their premium membership. The main reason was because I wanted the black-list feature. The black-list feature allows you to block a caller by either sending them straight to voicemail or by completely blocking their calls. Setting it up is as simple as going to your online account, viewing the call log and clicking on a black-list icon for a particular caller. This featured has stopped all the unsolicited calls which ignore the do-not-call list or claim to be exempt from it.
I have only experienced one outage with this product which required the Ooma hub to be reset to restore the service. Overall, however, I am greatly satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone.

I couldn't believe it when I read the product description. No phone bills? Well, yes, you don't pay the phone company anymore. This is NOT magic jack. No computer is necessary. There are no annoying pop-up ads on a computer or anything. It stands alone on its own. Porting of your current number takes around 2-3 weeks. Customer service for Ooma is great. Buying ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills

A member of Gen-Y, I can scarecely remember a time where I had a landline...maybe college? Anyway, my wife is about to launch a business from home and I knew that it would be extremely costly to add enough minutes to our cell phone plan to cover the time she'd be spending on the phone, not to mention battery life issues, reception, dropped calls, etc.

We did some preliminary research on landline costs and were stunned! Unlimited calling plans ranged from $25 introductory offers all the way to nearly $70 per month! Ouch! We then looked at magic jack, which was appealing but since we run on laptops, we knew there might be issues if the computers were to go on standby.

Enter Ooma to the rescue. One time fee for the unit!? Gosh, for the cost of 6 months of conventional landline service, this unit pays for itself! Better still, the voice quality is is as clear, if not more so than traditional phones!

I find the design of the ooma pleasing, with soft red and blue lights, a simple, easy to understand design, and pleasing ringtones. The online features are a bonus, but the average user probably doesn't even need the *optional* subscriber options for $99/yr. The unit was incredibly easy to set up, and really helps us cut costs as a small home business owner. In this economy, we need more innovations like this to help us reduce our monthly bills!Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

Have been using ooma for 3 weeks and have had no problems. I am always a bit skeptical and researched before buying. I had hoped that Consumer Reports had looked at it, but no. Everything I found about it was positive.

I have no regrets and would recommend it to anyone. The Premium plan is so economical I got it only to forward calls to my cell phone.

The literature/website says that cell phone numbers cannot presently be transferred to ooma. Some apparently can and mine is scheduled for transfer shortly.

It has been more than a month now and our Ooma hub is working great. The installation instructions were one of the best I have seen.

We ported our land line number to Ooma and that process went very well too. I had to place a call to customer service only once and it was answered promptly in under 5 seconds. Ooma support team acknowledged our porting request via email and gave us an estimated day when that was scheduled to occur. The porting was completed as scheduled.

Overall our experience has been great. I just wish they would offer some of the features as standard as does Lingo.com instead of having to pay an addition of 9.00 per month (e.g.call forwarding, three-way calling). Plus, its international rates are much higher than what you could get from other companies (we don't use Ooma for international calls - jajah.com works out much better for us)Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

I've had the Ooma for about 3 months now and have only great things to say about it.

The call quality is better than a landline, and the service has been about a 9.5 on a scale from 1-10. The only reason it lost that .5 was because for about 1/2 a day about a month and a half ago Ooma's service was down for about half the country. Still...that's about a 99.5% uptime, which for a box that will have paid for itself in about 5 months is well worth it.

I bought the Ooma after a HORRIBLE experience coming off of a MagicJack. These 2 products, although they offer the same service, aren't even in the same ballpark. The quality of the Ooma is better, you don't have to have a PC on all the time eating electricity ($), and MagicJack needed to be rebooted about once a week, which could turn into an hour long process before it would work again.

I would definitely buy an Ooma again, and recommend it to everyone.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

Before, I have the AT&T Uverse phone, cable and high speed internet all integrated. Then, I decided to separate the phone service because I hear loud radio station and noisy static when using the phone, thus, I have to cancel and get the regular phone service. Now having both cable and internet high speed that works, I bought ooma because I only want to pay the cable and high speed internet. I installed ooma for less than 10 minutes so even a cave man can do it (lol)! Love it so much, then called AT&T to cancel my phoneline. The next day my phone service from AT&T was cut off. The free message when you call my old number will tell you my new ooma number that I picked for free. I even choose my lucky number from the list of ooma phone numbers available. And it's FREE to pick the numbers you want. The thing about ooma is that, is not like Magic Jack that you should need the computer to make a call. Ooma is just like a regular phone to let some of you know the difference. I even added a cordless phone with the one connected to ooma hub so I can have two extension phones that I can use as back up. I have the speakerphone so I can talk anywhere in the house. And then the scout in the bedroom, I connected two phones that is working great. Just a simple life, just very convenient because is stress free for not paying a monthly phone bill. If you have a high speed internet or a modem then it works with ooma. The best thing is that I save my bills! Believe it or not! Try it and buy. You will feel good like I do. I hardly write any reviews. Ooma has created a very good product - user friendly - just connect it works. Porting took 15 days. Canceled my DSL and went with a cable for internet. No landline - bye bye AT&T.
Been using it close to 2 yrs. It is a no brainer - just buy it.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

I have been a longtime CallVantage user. Since AT&T is discontinuing the service, I decided to try OOMA. I am quite impressed with the product. The hardware is well designed and easy to install. I tested the service for 2 weeks with a new number prior to porting my old CallVantage number. I found the call quality to be excellent. The number porting went smoothly and OOMA provided regular email updates throughout the process. Unlike CallVantage, I like the fact I can dial seven digits for local numbers (I always had to dial 10-digits on CallVantage). It's interesting to note, that OOMA supports a land line as a backup to the basic VoIP service. If the VoIP service goes down, it will automatically switch over to the land line. My family doesn't use this feature, but we are considering this option with a metered land line for our older parents in case they have an emergency during an unlikely outage. My wife and I are extremely happy with this product and we highly recommend it to anyone considering an inexpensive phone service.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

I purchased an ooma phone device on June 4, 2009 and in just less than 10 minutes I have a phoneline that I do not need to pay for. The reception is exceptionally CLEAR and the clarity is even noticed by my caller at the other end. So, I suggested OOMA. And they were happy to buy one for themselves. And then, I called AT&T to cancel my service. She asked the reason why I want to cancel my service so I told her that I have ooma. She never heard of it. At first, she was asking if that was Magic Jack and I repeatedly answered it was ooma. She did not know this phone device. She warned me and told me to be careful. She sounded so skeptical because she never heard a thing about not paying a phone bill. She said that was impossible. She said I will be sorry for using this device. I told her then maybe AT&T can investigate and maybe they can launch a new device like ooma then....if the price is right people can buy it from them.
Overall my experience with ooma is excellent and would highly recommend to all who wants to stop paying their regular phone bill.

In Economics 101 there is a "rule one". It is the rule of "no free lunch". Well, My friends, they are wrong. Ooma is the one exception to that rule. It works, it is comparable to Vonage and theorectically free. It is my best 2009 purchase to date.

The voice quality and the option to pick a number from any area code is a plus. ( I didn't want to port my old number. It had to much baggage).

I set this thing up without looking at the directions and had zero problems. Get it if you are tired of being "magic jacked" by Vonage and the other phone providers.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills Top Quality

Update-Porting of my phone number was done in less than 3 weeks, exactly when they said it would be. Call quality has been excellent on every call. They even have an option where you can forward your voicemail to email. This will device will pay for itself in less than 7 months, why would everyone not get one?

I have had Ooma for about two weeks now and I am extremely impressed with the service and call quality.

I hooked the device up and had it going in about ten minutes. Unfortunately my internet stopped working at this point. So I called customer service and after less than 20 seconds on hold, talked to a very nice gentleman. In the process of checking the connections, I accidentally disconnected the phone. Within a few seconds the phone rang and it was the CS person calling back to see if I fixed my problem. Turns out that my router needed to be rebooted.

My only worry is, will this company being receiving enough of a revenue stream to maintain this business model? I suspect most of the customers with more than one person in the household, will sign up for the premium service to get the extra phone line. I guess time will tell. With customer service like this, I think the company plans on being around for awhile.Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills Review

It took me about 45 minutes to unpack the hardware, register it online and plug it together. I read the part about "registration make take a few minutes". About 10 minutes later the blue light came on and we started dialing. I love the little music when I pickup. Been calling everyone we know all over the country all day. We opted to avoid using the scout by simply plugging the base unit of a multi-unit wireless phone system into the ooma hub. Yah I know we're missing the second line etc for now. And we've not bothered setting up voicemail etc just yet. Thought we'd go very basic for a few days, then add features slowly. Setting up my DVD player/Receiver/TV was more complex than this thing. Stupidly simple install. Can't wait to kick my landline to the curb!Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.

I will never again pay for my phone at home! It feels good to type it, feels good to think it, and feels good to say it! The set up out of the box lasted no more than 10 minutes. Simply plugged my modem into the Ooma, the other cord into my computer, and taaadaa!
I will be telling all my friends and family about this great find! I paid $229.99 and will be saving that within 5 months time! Within a year it will have paid for itself twice!
Thank you Amazon and Ooma for saving me my hard earned money!!! Happy customer for life!
