I used to say that my TiVo was the best thing since sliced bread. Now the ooma is right up there proudly standing at the TiVo's side vying for that distinction.

It's a real shame that Amazon defaults to "most helpful first" instead of "newest first" when it comes to reviews. Why you ask? Well, simply put, ooma has obviously made SEVERAL improvements since Amazon started selling them and the earlier poor reviews tend to focus on things that have been (or at least appear to have been) corrected. Regretfully though, most prospective customers will read primarily earlier reviews because those are the ones that tend to have had the most people click that it was helpful.

Bottom line, ooma is awesome. If you don't thoroughly read the FAQ's, forums, reviews, etc. prior to buying one, then don't complain with 1 or 2-star reviews when something goes wrong for you that is clearly pointed out somewhere. FOR EXAMPLE, faxing isn't "supported". SOME have gotten fax capability to work, some haven't. If you NEED to fax from your home phone line, then DON'T buy the device and then complain it doesn't work.

Customer service has, at times, been a big concern. I called this afternoon at about 1 PM eastern time. I was connected to a technical support representative within TEN SECONDS. That's a far cry from some of the 60 minute nightmares and frequent disconnects that the majority of 1-star customer service reviewers have commented on. The tech that I spoke to was friendly, courteous, intelligent, AND not in a foreign country. (That's a big plus nowadays!)

Installation difficulty is also something that you may have to contend with. There are THOUSANDS of different possible configurations that you MAY be trying to connect your ooma to. DSL vs. Cable modems, different types of routers, switches, hubs, etc. etc. Say, for example, you have a 1.5mb/384k DSL connection. Don't expect ooma to sound as good as the user with a 20mb/1mb Cable modem. Personally, I've hooked my ooma hub up to the THIRD and FINAL network switch in a string of TiVo's, gaming consoles, computers, and even a Slingbox. My ooma still works flawlessly.

One reviewer had the audacity to say "sounds too good to be true because it is". Hogwash. It is certainly true and is a great system. Now, if only they don't go belly-up BECAUSE it's such a good thing. You all out there in Amazon-review-reading-land need to tell all of your friends, neighbors, etc. about this thing so that they can keep it going well into the future.
