I bought this ooma system about 6 months ago to use at home. I work at home and talk on the phone quite a bit for business related reasons. I signed up for the ooma premier and really enjoyed the extra features, extra phone number, call forwarding, etc.
BUT, if something sounds to good to be true it is, ooma is plagued with the same problems as other VOIP's if not more, the sound quality is bad, for home use its ok, but for business it is unacceptable. The customers could hardly hear me and one described it as "you sound like your being beat up with ninjas". I still use the ooma system for my home phone and it has enabled me to decrease my cell phone plan, but I restarted my landline phone a few months ago for business purposes. The ooma system is nowhere near as dependable or the same quallity as a landline, if ooma was, no one would have a landline. You have to deal with dropped calls on long conversations, sometimes the phone does not ring when someone calls and just gets shuttled to voicemail. FOr home purposes I can deal, but if your planning on using this for business...FORGET ABOUT IT!
I hope you find this review helpful, I give this system a 3 because it does save me money every month and I can deal with the problems, but my fiance hates it and says the problems are too intrusive to even talk with friends. You have to decide if you are picky when it comes to dropped calls, semi-frequent fuzziness on the line and a lot of hello, hello, you there, ok heh whats going on. And your friends will complain alot, it seems like they get more of the fuzziness than I do.
Customer service is terrible and you WILL NOT be able to get them on the phone, an email takes about a week or so, but they will get back with you. BUT the installation and setup is easy as pie, you would have to be challenged to need help doing it. I wanted to port a number to ooma, which they did do, but it took them 5 months and I was never able to get them on the phone, only email. If your patient and don't mind their customer service or don't plan on doing anything fancy like porting a number, then this is a non issue, because you will not need them to install the product.
