1. It must have good or great voice quality. I've used 3 different VOIP products that were okay, but this ooma devise is simply outstanding voice quality.
2. It must be simple to set up. Not geekish, and constantly needing software or customer service attention. This sets up in 5 minutes, and is working with a temporary telephone number letting you try it out for 30 days to see. Never had a problem yet.
3. It must be inexpensive. Can you say $0 phone bill? Sure you pay up front, but look: you save $40-$60 over typical local phone/long distance. I figure that my break even point is 4 months.
4. It must have cool features. Look, this ooma unit is way cool. Don't even think to compare to the average telephone company.
5. It must be a stable company. Okay, I'm no prophet whether this company will stay or not, but who is to say that ANY voip company will be around in 2-5 years. If you MUST have absolute certainty here, stay with the local phone company. But, consider that churn is a major detriment to phone companies especially when it is easy to change back. Read the reviews of happy customers, and think how this business plan is made for people to stay with them. Yes, money up front will not require constant recapturing of fickle customers
6. It must have... "got to have" features. Listen, the premier features cost an extra $99/year or $12.95/per month. You get to try them for 90 days free. Don't need them, okay, your main ooma still works,but they are there if you need and like them. I do.
7. If you need really cheap long distance or ready to leave your computer on all the time, or can accept less than steller voice, go find other solutions, but this ooma unit is the real deal.
8. Nobody really has great customer service anymore . . .except Amazon and few others, but I got through to this company in less than 5 minutes on my call. Signup and number porting is simply on-line automation. I don't want to have to be calling a company. I want service to be functioning from day 1. I did.
9. Sounds like I work for the company? I don't! I took a long hard look at it. Be a sceptic and do your work. But, if you try this unit, you may find that YOU will be writing a stellar review after a few months of using ooma.
