We are so very pleased with our "ooma" purchase from Amazon.com and have not paid a phone bill since I installed it. It is wonderful technology that uses your High Speed Internet connection (Cable - even Road Runner Lite - or DSL) for your phone service. And your PC and/or router does not even have to be turned on! Amazing!
We live in the "burbs" & the only options we have are Bright House Cable phone service or Verizon. We wasted a lot of time and money with Verizon. Verizon's support is terrible. When you call for tech support you are actually calling India or Pakistan and not only did we experience many problems with our phone & Internet it sometimes took 2-3 days before a technician would come to the house to "fix" (LOL) our problem. But they came so often it disrupted our work schedules. We finally paid to drop their services a year early just to be rid of them - though my wife still keeps their cell phone service. Then we wasted more time, but a little less money with Vonage. When using the Vonage service the clarity was just awful and technical support was virtually non-existent. My personal experience with Vonage Tech. Support went something like this: Terrible clarity with the service > We call Tech Support > Wait 40-45 minutes for a representative who might be in the Philippines, India or Pakistan only to be told that we had a bad connection and to "Call back at a later time."
After that we bundled our phone service in with our cable & Internet via Bright House. Even with the bundled package our phone service was approximately $40.00 per month (+ taxes and fees) after the "Special Bundled Package" expired. When I used my cordless phone anywhere near my PC I encountered static. We had three other lines in the house and they all had interference. I like to use the phone from the family room outside on the deck when talking w/friends or family. But, due to interference or picking up a neighbor's conversation while they were on their phone I was constantly having to change the channel or reposition myself and the phone all to little or no avail. I figured it was time to buy new batteries or new phones. But, I wanted to find out what other VoIP options were available.
I did all of my research online and learned from reading user reviews & user forums that Skype was even worse and another company "Jack" something-or-other was the worst. I did hear about a company called "ooma," found out that it was available at Best Buy & went to the store for more information. The salesman there told me that he bought his own "ooma" using his employee discount (Best Buy's price $250.00) and thought it was great, especially since it had already paid for itself. So, I came to Amazon.com where the price was $209 and read the reviews here. There is also a voice comparison at Amazon.com between Vonage & "ooma." We have had our "ooma for about 3 months and my wife & I think it is absolutely great. When my wife writes out our monthly bills she always thanks "My ooma guy." That would be me. She thinks that it is the best buy we have ever made - IT WILL ACTUALLY SAVE US OVER $540.00 EACH YEAR. As I have said, we have not paid a phone bill since we bought "ooma" (the price then had gone from $209 to $219). However, "ooma" will have paid for itself in just a few more weeks.
We did experience slower Internet speeds right away. So, the day after it was installed I called "ooma" Tech support. My wait time was about ONE MINUTE and the technician I spoke with was within the U.S. He was very professional, yet surprisingly friendly. More to the point, he told me how to fix my problem & reboot the ooma in 2 very easy steps. All I needed to do was run the Ethernet connection directly into the "ooma" device and then to the router rather than the other way around. Reboot is so simple & only takes about 2 minutes. Since then our Internet connection speeds are back to top performance AND most importantly THE CLARITY OF THE "ooma" CALLS, BOTH INCOMING & OUTGOING ARE BETTER THAN WE HAVE HAD IN YEARS! And we are still using our same portable phones without any interference. This technology is terrific! Anyone who has a high-speed Internet connection no longer needs to ever pay a phone bill again.

The "ooma" HUB & Scout come very well packaged and the devices themselves are extremely well built, completely unobtrusive and attractive.
Now the price at Amazon.com has dropped to $199 and we are going to buy another "ooma" for our summer/week-end getaway house (it's a small house J ) today.
I would & have recommended "ooma" to anyone & everyone. You will not be sorry if you buy this system. STOP PAYING TELEPHONE BILLS FOREVER!
