The sound quality rivals my landline and nobody knew that I had changed to VOIP until I told them. Setup was pretty straightforward and the product is easy to use. I had one problem with the setup, which turned out not to be the fault of the unit, and was able to reach a helpful rep quickly. There are only two minor negatives that I encountered. I had difficulty faxing anything beyond 4 pages. I kept losing the line connection. Initially, I could not fax at all until I started putting *99 before the number. Also, when I had a question about porting my number, I was on hold for 20 minutes. Once I got a rep, they were very helpful and professional. You can't expect instant customer service from a startup company, who does not generate revenue form the normal monthly charges, to give the same support as other companies who are better funded. I believe that 20 minutes is too long but am willing to put up with a little bit of hassle to save lots of money ($500 yearly). Those who gave this unit a low rating based just on customer service are not looking at the total picture. That is, Ooma puts out a great product at a reasonable price. It remains to be seen whether the company survives financially. However, I only need five months to break even which I feel is a very low risk. I also did not have a problem paying the extra to port my number because I felt that I was helping to support a great company. This is unusual for me because I am very cheap. I have never been so excited about a product. Now, if Ooma could help me get rid of my monopoly cable provider, I would be really pleased.
