Buying ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills

My only question after using Ooma is why anyone would use anything else. It's an amazing system, and a great value. This thing gives you better quality and better features than the phone company, with only the initial purchase price to pay.

I set it up last night. I am somewhat "tech challenged," and it took a bit of tinkering to make it work with my internet modem and wi-fi router, cable TV, etc. The box says 20 minutes; maybe I'm "slow," but it was more like 45 minutes from start to finish. The directions were excellent -- clear and simple, but I was relocating equipment to another room. I also have a landline for an alarm system (it works after Ooma; I tested it). The bottom line: if you can set up a router and cable modem, you easily have the skills to hook Ooma up. When in doubt, shut the power to all devices and turn them back it. When they come back up, they will be talking to each just fine.

The sound quality is better than our landline. That's right. Hard to believe, but true. My wife, who was very skeptical about an internet phone (and who was prepared to hate it), immediately agreed that it was crystal clear. I was also concerned that it might slow down our wi-fi or otherwise interfere with something or other. It didn't. All is working great.

The answering machine is better than either the phone service one or an old fashioned home unit. You have the best of both worlds. You can get your messages at the hub, or the scout, or online. And you can access your messages remotely by just dialing your home phone (and PIN you select), not some other number that's hard to remember.

If there is any downside to this free service, I sure haven't found it yet. It's a great product, well thought out and smart. You'll love it. I don't usually write reviews. However, the prior reviews here helped me sort out if this new sort of tech gadget was right for us, and I thought I've give back! Happy (free) calling.
