At the recommendation of my brother in law I purchased the Ooma system. Right after Christmas I hooked it up. Installation was straightforward and easy. My installation is thru DSL. One issue I had to deal with was location. My DSL modem was in the computer room with my router, but I didn't want the main Ooma phone to be there. I wanted the Ooma phone in the kitchen but wanted the router to remain in the computer room. I had to do a little re-wiring to get everything where I wanted it. The point of all this is, think about the physical layout of your new Ooma before you buy it to make sure you can set it up the way you want. Initially everything seemed fine, then we started noticing voice quality issues. Got lots of complaints from the people we were calling that we were coming over garbled, the line would drop out sometimes. We could not do anything else that required the internet while on the Ooma or the quality declined severely. I was starting to wonder if maybe the Ooma wasn't going to work for me. I do a lot of business from my home and good quality phone service is important. Before deciding to uninstall the Ooma I went on the Ooma forums to see what others had to say about poor voice quality. Found a wealth of information there. One of the big discoveries was a site where you can measure the download and upload speeds of your broadband connection and some recommendation on how much speed you should see to get good Ooma performance. Bottomline, my DSL speed was so low I'm surprised the Ooma worked at all. So, I'm getting my DSL speed upgraded to 10Mb next week, that should be more than enough to support the Ooma and not stop me from using the internet at the same time. But, don't expect to just buy this system and plug it in and be OK. It appears there are some minimum broadband requirements they don't really tell you about and you may have to get into bowels of the system and tweak setting to get the performance you expect. I'm still waiting to see if I can get the Ooma to work the way I want it to, but check out the forums.(you won't be able to get to the forums until you buy the Ooma, they are accessed thru the Ooma lounge which you get access to when you activate your Ooma)Get more detail about ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills.
