ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills Review

I got ooma for my home business and have never looked back.

Pros:
- Compared to other VoIP providers it's cheap - truly free domestic calling with no contract or monthly fees
- Ultra portable - I've taken it all over the country with me
- Easy to setup
- Beautiful interface
- Access messages over the net or via cell phone
- Great AMERICAN customer service (NOT OUTSOURCED!!!)
- SUPER CHEAP INTERNATIONAL CALLING! Sydney: 1 hour for one dollar!
- Lets you allocated bandwidth to insure call quality

Cons:
- Faxes can be a problem if your machine is sensitive to line noise
- Not really a con but if you're in an office or using lots of bandwidth, international calls might have a one millisecond delay; Sydney for example.
- ooma offers a "premier" service that allows you to do 3-way and some other customizing features, but this is a monthly fee and kind of steep; $20. They are looking at offering these service individually or per-call which would be really awesome. My Premier trial worked perfectly when I did a 3-way between Washington D.C., Brussels and New York City.

I bought the ooma hub for my new home business. It had worked perfectly for making and receiving calls. I have it plugged into an Airport Extreme router because I have to do a lot of port forwarding which can be tough if the ooma is my first device. Downloading over BitTorrent, streaming movies and music, and general internet usage over a 16mb connection offers zero issues domestically. Calling international...I might have to turn off BitTorrent.

Bottom line: If you want free long distance nationwide without using your cell phone, want to make ultra cheap international land line calling, don't like using a headset to make your calls, then ooma is for you. Works with any land line telephone, voice mail works perfect and you can retrieve the messages via the net or have them sent to your cell. Did I mention you can take it anywhere, plug it in and all of your calls will come right to you? Yup, even in a crappy hotel in Alaska it has worked perfectly for me.
