Shop For ooma Core VoIP Phone System with No Monthly Phone Service Bills

After getting frustrated with my phone companies increasing prices and some questionable billing policies, we decided to drop our home phone line.
Then shortly found out that cell phones alone aren't enough. (need to be able to reach the kids at home)

Initially we tried MagicJack, but the audio quality was usually quite poor, and it would periodically fail to take incoming calls. So we returned it and decided to give ooma a shot.

I've read several reviews here and elsewhere regarding the ooma's horrible customer service, but I decided to give it a try anyway. Figuring if I couldn't get it working properly within 30 days, I could just return it and get my money back. Wasn't even going to attempt to call their customer support.

Thankfully, the unit works like a charm! Setup was simple, and the audio quality is perfect. As clear as a normal phone line. The only minor thing I noticed is for incoming calls, when I first pick up the phone I hear an echo of the ooma "distinctive" dial tone. No big deal, as it only lasts a second or two. Other than that, it's as clear as can be.

ooma also has some nice bundled features. We particularly like the "instant second line" feature. Nice to be able to make a call when someone is already on the phone. Although this is part of their premier package. So I'm not sure it's worth the $12.99 a month after the initial 60 day trial to 'Premier'. In all likelihood we'll probably just stay with the basic service after that. I mean, the point of this was to save money and eliminate the monthly bills, right?
